Translator's Notes:

¹There has been widespread speculation as to the meaning of this song and who it's directed towards. I won't write out my own thinking here, as I don't wish to colour others' thinking.

²This could allude to a black market of some fashion.

³This could also be translated as "A bug in the toilet, fuck you, loser!", but I didn't think it was quite as emphatic.

⁴Before it was taken down – and sadly I do not have screenshots – Hiro used this writing of the song title in English on his Instagram.

⁵The kanji used in the lyrics is 身体but is an example of 義訓 gikun, which is the reading of kanji by its meaning, so instead of the typical reading as shintai, it is instead sung as karada, meaning 'body'.

⁶Hiro uses 半端ねぇ hampa nee in the lyrics, which is being used as a more colloquial phrasing of 半端ない hampa nai, meaning 'to a great extent'.

⁷'For the purpose of looking good in the mirror'.

⁸目前 read as mokuzen oft means something to the effect of 'under one's nose'. When read as mesaki, the meaning is similar, but is usually used in a negative connotation (for example, "he's only interested in short-term profits"). Here, Hiro sings it as mokuzen.

¹⁰This line is structured in a way that struck one of my coworkers, reminding her of Tanka (structured on syllables, similar to haiku) poetry. The original line in Japanese ends in a noun, but this structure is very uncommon in English; we don't usually have long modifiers on nouns, but it is especially common in Japanese song lyrics.

¹¹The notation for hectopascal; a unit of pressure measuring internal pressure, stress, Young's modulus, and ultimate tensile strength. In this song's context it could be referring to the internal pressure felt by the speaker, and their frustration at the situation.

¹²In the Japanese lyrics, Hiro uses 'wwwwwww', which is Japanese shorthand for 笑 warai, often used as 'lol'. The more w's used could be rewritten as I have done here, or even lmao or other variants denoting heavy laughter.

¹³orz is another Japanese shorthand form of emoticon, this time coming from a person kneeling on the floor with their head bowed. See this image for a good breakdown. Use of this emoticon enhances the dejection of the speaker in the song.

¹⁴As with "Muscles of the world," Hiro used this English in the track listing on a since-deleted Instagram post.
